HELSTAR To Play At Houston Hispanic Rock Showcase

December 6, 2004

Reformed cult U.S. metal act HELSTAR will be performing at Vara's Sports Bar in Houston, Texas on Saturday, December 11. Also appearing on the bill will be CREMATOR, FUNERAL RITES, SOUL REMOVED and DARK FLAME. "This unique celebration has been organized by the owner of Vara's Sports Bar, in collaboration with a small committee from a major beer brewing company who endorses and promotes Hispanic artists," reads a press release announcing the show. "This special event features Hispanic rock bands and will commence within the very community that HELSTAR frontman James Rivera and bassist Jerry Abarca were not only raised, but have built and continue to maintain a large following in. It's always an exciting time for friends and fans native to James and Jerry's stomping grounds when HELSTAR engages in appearances ranging from local Houston performances to international endeavors, however, this occasion is most exceptional as it will mark the first HELSTAR showcase in Northside in nearly two decades!"

Tickets are now available for pre-sale at the following two locations:

Sound Exchange
1846 Richmond Avenue
Houston, TX
713-555-6666

Vara's Sports Bar

HELSTAR frontman James Rivera recently told Denmark's Antenna webzine that he is planning on recording a new HELSTAR album in addition to continuing to releasing CDs with his DISTANT THUNDER project. "I'm going to do another DISTANT THUNDER record," he said. "And I'm going to do a HELSTAR record. Just like KING DIAMOND did it with MERCYFUL FATE. Instead of combining the two bands, or getting rid of one of them, I'm doing both. The new HELSTAR album will sound like 'Nosferatu', because my new guitarist writes material like that now. Very technical stuff. DISTANT THUNDER will be more straight-forward, melodic stuff, and HELSTAR will be technical as hell."
